The Behavioral Health Services inpatient unit offers individualized treatment through a full range of psychiatric services using a team approach within a framework of education, comprehensive treatment and support to meet the following goals:
- Provide quality service based upon current acceptable practice standards.
- Employ competent, pleasant, caring staff, who function as a team.
- Stabilize and return a patient home as quickly as possible
- Help the patient function as independently and safely as possible.
- Reduce the likelihood of future hospitalizations or relapses through education and increased self-awareness.
Patients seeking admission to the inpatient unit must have medical clearance by a personal physician or through the JMH Emergency Department.
Treatment and Admission
Treatment begins with a physician assessment, intake evaluation, and a nursing assessment. Assignments for treatment are then made according to type of care required and specific skills of staff members.
Under the direction of a psychiatrist, an interdisciplinary team of behavioral health professionals assess each patient's needs. Psychologists, psychiatric nurses, social workers and activity therapists work together with the patient to develop an individual treatment plan.
Patients stay as long as necessary to meet treatment goals. Post-discharge follow-up and outplacement referrals to community resources are made to meet the patients' ongoing social, psychological and job needs.
To educate and increase the awareness of illness dynamics, medication issues are discussed and coping mechanisms to assist in conflict resolution are identified.
