The basic goal of physical therapy is to relieve pain and discomfort, regain movement, promote healing, restore function to an injured body part, and help people adapt to permanent physical changes. The PT staff performs treatments to increase mobility/ambulation and to strengthen lower extremities (legs). PT also treats back, neck and shoulder problems or injuries.

Occupational Therapy helps patients maximize independence and function with daily living activities. OT is prescribed after an illness or accident has caused functional limitations. It can also be beneficial in developmental challenges that children sometimes experience.

Speech Therapy is available for both children and adults. JMH speech therapists are experienced in developmental and pediatric speech therapy as well as adult needs that may follow a stroke or illness.

Aqua Therapy involves exercise programs that take place in the Rehab Services therapeutic pool. It offers many benefits for patients affected by balance, mobility and stabilization disorders, as well as patients who cannot bear weight for extended periods of time.

Outpatient services are available in the Rehab Services office located in the Johnston Medical Mall (North Entrance), or at Summit Rehab Services in Clayton.

Physical and occupational therapy require a physician's referral.

Summit Rehab Center is a spacious outpatient facility in Clayton, NC with up-to-date equipment and treatment tools. In addition to offering Physical Therapy, our highly skilled staff includes Occupational Therapists and Speech Therapists for patients with multiple problems and needs. The hours of operation range from early morning to evening for added patient convenience and scheduling.

Summit Rehab Medicine

Physiatrists are physicians who treat conditions that cause pain or limit function. They are also called physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians. Dr. Jamie Udwadia of Summit Rehab Medicine can help people with a wide range of problems from carpal tunnel syndrome to multiple sclerosis or other brain injuries.

The goal of rehabilitation medicine is to restore patients to their maximum functional status, helping them to return aspects of normalcy to their lives. This is accomplished by prescribed therapies, medications, orthotics, prosthetics, or other modalities. It is a comprehensive specialty that includes prevention, early recognition as an inpatient and outpatient treatment programs.

The office has a full-time rehabilitation physician and physical therapist. Additionally, a part-time occupational therapist is available.

Summit Rehab Medicine hours are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesday, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The physical therapy gym is open Monday through Thursday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
