Johnston Memorial Early Learning Center, an educational-based, full day childcare facility provides a nurturing environment for children six weeks to five years of age. The program, based on age-appropriate, developmental and educational practices provides a literacy-based curriculum for instructional use for the children. Character development is also incorporated into each classroom where appropriate.

The Center specializes in low teacher to child ratios which are essential in ensuring interactions on a daily basis. These ratios are lower than mandatory North Carolina State requirements. The Center will follow the voluntary enhanced standards for ratios and quality. The Center also complies with National Association of Education for Young Children requirements for quality.

The playground is divided into age appropriate sections and utilizes the outdoor early learning classroom environment. The Center and grounds are equipped with state-of-art security systems. The equipment is securely anchored and is placed on poured-in-place cushioning that reduces the impact of falls for children. There are paths for riding tricycles and wagons, as well as shaded play areas.
